How to write a quote that wins the trial

What a family sees when they compare quotes, why the time you propose matters, and how to write a note that works without a reply.

On Learn Now, families post what they need and compare the quotes tutors send. You do not get to talk them round before they choose, so the quote does the work. Here is what makes one stand out.

What the family sees

Each quote shows your name, your rate, the length and cost of the first lesson, the weekly time you propose, and your note, with a link to your profile. The family compares the quotes side by side, then pays for one trial lesson with the tutor they choose.

How a request runs: no new quotes after day 14, no more trials after day 21, and it closes on day 23

Five things that win trials

  1. Quote early. Quotes close on day 14 of a request, trials happen by day 21, and the family decides by day 23. Request alerts tell you when a new request matches what you teach. A family can accept a quote and book its trial as soon as it arrives, so an early, complete quote has the best chance.
  2. Propose a weekly time. Pick one of the times the family asked for. If they accept your quote, they accept that time too, so there is no back-and-forth after payment.
  3. Match the lesson length. The first lesson with a new family is at least 1.5 hours. If you quote a different length from the one the family asked for, say why in your note.
  4. Write a note that stands on its own. The family cannot reply to it: messaging opens once they accept and pay the trial. In up to 500 characters, say which of their days work, what you would do in the first lesson, and your experience with this level and syllabus.
  5. Make sure your profile backs it up. A family who likes your note opens your profile next. See a tutor profile families trust for what to put there.

A note that works

"Monday and Thursday at 5pm both work for me. In the first lesson I will go through the last two school tests to see where marks are lost, then do a short set on fractions and model drawing. I have taught P5 Mathematics for six years, mostly preparing students for the PSLE."

It answers the three things a family wonders about: when, what happens first, and why you.

After you quote

Once the family pays the trial, messaging opens and you can plan the first lesson together. A family may trial more than one tutor for the same request, and you are not told whether you are the only one. If they choose another tutor after your trial, you are paid half your trial fee. If they choose you, the two of you agree the weekly lessons.
